“Those who played the original Dave Mirra Freestyle fall on one of two sides of the coin. The first being that they absolutely loved the game or they thought the game needed some major improvements in order to even thing about playing a sequel. Regardless of which side you take, Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 is a game you should check out, but don’t get your hopes overly high.
Just like the original game, the follow-up has a storyline where you are tasked with trying to master levels with a pro BMX biker. As you progress through the eight levels of the game, expect increasingly difficult challenges and stunt. One nice touch here is that you have popular pros from the BMX world introducing you to these challenges.
For those looking for improvements to this game, the one areas where this game shines is the two-player mode. This time around you have 13 games to choose from where you can battle against your friend. Some of these include high score contests, a wipeout mode, and even HORSE. For the wipeout mode, you are trying to one-up each other with the most insane stunt you can imagine.
With the improvements, there are still some annoying glitches in this one that were there in the last one, just not nearly as bad. For example, if you miss a stunt and figure you’re about to see your player land a face plant, instead you may see them go through the rail.
Also, the collision detection in this game is way off to the point that you can sometimes pass through solid walls. To our knowledge there isn’t a ghost mode in this game. On the other end of the spectrum, some rails appear magnetic. Simply put, there are still a few issues that needed ironing out.
Overall, this game is a vast improvement over the first game with an enhanced two-player mode and fewer glitches than the original. Some additional beta testing could have went a long way with this game, but it is still one that you should check out if you are a BMX fan.”
