Another week, another Mellon 7’s interview. This time we caught up with only 16 years old Declan Brooks from Portsmouth, England, who has been killing it this past year like crazy. Click read more and read what Declan thinks about BMX community, what was his worst injury and more. Thanks Declan Brooks for all those fine words.
1. Name, Location, Sponsors.
Name: Declan brooks
Location: Portsmouth, England.
Sponsor: Mutant Bikes, Vocal Bmx, Scoop Distribution, We Are Park Clothing.
2. The best place to ride.
In the UK The best place to ride in my opinion is the Ghetto Shed, some crazy sessions go down there, good guys that send it.
But in the world it would have to be Woodward, PA, so sick there.
3. What do you think about BMX community?
The BMX community is too divided for my liking.
4. What was your worst injury on or off your bike?
My worst injury would have to be when I face planted at X-Fest early this year. Cased the box on a backflip barspin, nose manualed the landing and landed on my face skidding along the concrete. Knocked a tooth out, chipped a couple and cut most of the right side of my face up. Wasn’t to pleasant.
5. Tell a joke for kids.
Filling more small cracks than autoglass since the 1970’s.
6. What is your opinion about mellonBMX and online BMX contests?
Mellon bmx is sick, they have almost every bmx edit out on there, u can check out what the BMX community is up to and they post new videos up almost instantly. No slacking! Haha.
I think it is rad that kids are having the opportunity to win BMX stuff that they wouldn’t have the chance to anywhere else.
7. Who would you like to thank?
Theres so many people that I’d like to thank. Firstly I’d like to thank my dad most of all through being there my whole BMX career and pushing me, I wouldn’t be this far is it wasn’t for him and thanks to my mum for allowing me to not go to college and let me try and pursue my career in BMX. I’d also like to thank Mason at Vocal BMX / Scoop Distribution / Custom Riders for hooking me up last year. Also thanks Nuno at Mutant Bikes for putting me on the Pro team back in September. Also thanks to Shay at We Are Park Clothing for sorting me out with clothes and also bringing all the team together to shoot an edit, was a good day. Thanks to Mark Webb for letting me come up and ride the #GS for the last 2 years that’s helped me a lot. Lastly I’d like to thank Effraim Catlow for keeping southsea skatepark open all these years and making an effort to squeegee the wet ramps to try an open it up.
