I met Paddy Gross last year in Bucharest, Romania and must say that he’s a really great person. I asked him if he can write down a quick answers on this question for me and here they are.
1. Name, Location, Sponsors
Paddy Aaron Gross, I currently live in Hamburg/Germany.
My sponsors are Colony Australia, Vans Germany, Carhartt Europe and Power Balance.
2. The best place to ride
Anywhere with my friends and people who like to have fun on the bike as much as i do.
3. What do you think about BMX community?
BMX has changed and heaps of kids get the wrong impression of it. All they do is watching webclips and try to learn all the hard stuff at first because they think they have to do certain kinda tricks to be a part of the BMX world and instead of tailtap they´re starting with tailwhips. It´s not about getting sponsored or always be no.1, it’s about having fun and the freedom to do what you want. It’s hard to be original these days because almost everyone is doing the same kinda tricks, there’s just a few riders sticking out of the whole bunch and I try to be one of them.
4. What was your worst injury on or off your bike?
A couple years ago I felt on my head and suffered a brain bleeding even wearing a helmet. It took me 4 month to get back on the bike but it´s all good now. I’ve learned my lesson not to ride or do certain stuff when I don’t feel safe or in shape. We all make decisions everyday and I had to learn to think about them before I make them.
5. Tell a joke for kids
What’s worse than biting into an apple and finding a worm? Finding half a worm!
6. What is your opinion about mellonBMX and online BMX contests?
I think it’s cool to keep everyone posted with infos, clips, photos and random stuff. I think it’s interesting to read about people who’re not in the spotlights like all the typical pros. The BMX world is big and it’s getting bigger and there’s always people who create a whole new picture of BMX just because they are who they are.
7. Who would you like to thank?
God for always being there and not letting me down, all my friends for putting up with me, my girlfriend Aline who’s the light of my life, all my sponsors for trusting, helping and loving me, my parents for their help, love and support, BMX for showing me the world, mellon BMX/rok for giving me this opportunity/interview and YOU for reading this. Cheers! Paddy
