It has been a while since out last Mellon 7′s interview, but here we are back with a fresh one. For this week we got crazy front flip and (now) flair to fakie drop down the loading dock master Zack Gerber. Find out what he has to say about BMX community, what joke he will tell you and more after the jump.
1. Name, Location, Sponsors.
Zack Gerber. I’m originally from Ridgway, Pennsylvania but I currently reside in Columbus, Ohio.
My sponsors are Redline, Snafu, Albe’s, Urban Kreation and Misled Clothing.
2. The best place to ride.
Any place with your friends. From a ledge to a rail, or even a skatepark. It doesn’t matter as long as you’re with your friends having a good time.
3. What do you think about BMX community?
Despite all the arguments, we’re all still brothers.
4. What was your worst injury on or off your bike?
I tried a double front flip back in 2003. Ended up landing on my head, and fractured T6 and T7 vertebrae in my back. Along with 4 ribs behind my left shoulder blade.
5. Tell a joke for kids.
Why is 6 afraid of 7? Because 7 ate 9.
6. What is your opinion about mellonBMX and online BMX contests?
I think it’s an awesome idea. It’s reminiscent of 2000 era BMX but using the internet. Originally riders had to get coverage by attending contests and hoping they’d get a clip or photo in a magazine. This online video contest ties into that same ideal. It gives talented riders an opportunity to show their abilities while having a popular website host their material. Seems like a win win.
7. Who would you like to thank?
I’m thankful for: My parents because I wouldn’t be doing any of this if it wasn’t for them. Having an amazing fiancé who manages to put up with my hectic lifestyle and still loves me at the end of the day. My sponsors for always helping me out, being there for me, and keeping my bike rolling. My friends I’ve met along the way. From filmers and photographers to kids I’ve rode with and every high five I’ve ever gotten or given. To you Rok for allowing me to have the opportunity to give this interview. To all my supporters and even the haters. Every person has played a role as a piece in the puzzle that is my life, and for all of that I am grateful.
