Red Bull, Anthony Napolitan and Dreamline contest are back for another year. In 2013 they are bringing the event to Angel Fire, New Mexico and it will be happening in August. Read more about it and who are the invited riders after the jump.
“A new location and the first 16 invited riders are announced for the progressive dirt-jumping event.
Red Bull Dreamline, the one-of-a-kind BMX dirt event originally held on private land in Wabasha, Minnesota, in 2011, is rising again, this time in the resort area of Angel Fire, New Mexico. On August 10, 2013, the slopes of the mountain will be converted into a dream downhill BMX dirt course, with 1,500 feet of perfectly-groomed hits made-to-order, descending from nearly 10,000 feet of elevation.
The Red Bull Dreamline project was conceived by BMX pro Anthony Napolitan as a way to showcase the best of what dirt riding can be. Given six weeks and complete freedom to develop and groom the course back in 2011, builder Adam Aloise helped take contest riding to a new level.
While some elements of the 2013 course will be kept under wraps, Napolitan and Aloise are promising a layout that includes 12 hits with one of the largest shark fin features ever seen, as well as a jump that will send riders at least 35 feet in the air. Top names in the sport have already RSVP’d, including 2011 event winner Luke Parslow, Brian Foster, Dennis Enarson and Mike “Hucker” Clark.
On August 9, 32 riders will compete in two qualifying heats of 16, each a two-hour jam session. The 16 athletes in the non-riding heat will judge their peers. The top four from each heat will move on to Saturday’s final and will be judged by a randomly-drawn group of non-qualifying riders from Friday.
While there is prize money up for grabs, the contest shines a light on what BMXers enjoy most about riding: the freedom of pushing the limits and having fun with their friends on a course that has no rules or constraints.
As Napolitan describes it, “Red Bull Dreamline is an event that BMX riders can show up to, ride, have a great time, progress, and feel completely comfortable without the pressures of a normal contest setting. This event was designed for the riders, by the riders and that’s why it’s going to be such a great success.”
Spectators are welcome to attend the free event on August 10 only, with gates opening at noon and the contest starting at 2:00 p.m. The best action will air on NBC as part of the Red Bull Signature Series on October 19 at 5:00 p.m. ET / 2:00 p.m. PT, brought to you in partnership with Casio G’zOne Commando, Dodge Dart, and GoPro.
The first 16 invited riders — drawn from the list of 2011 participants — are below. Stay tuned for the next five invites, to be revealed on May 6.
